PHOTOGRAPHY

I recently decided to create a separate website, Pretty Things, for my photography. The URL is http://www.creativesoulphotos.com/. The photos I will upload there in the coming months consist of anything and everything, especially vintage items, farm scenes, nature, and the little things that make life so precious.

I’m fortunate to live in an area as beautiful as paradise, some of it untouched by man—so rare to find a small corner of the world like that anymore. I capture it with my lens when inspired. This land has been in my family since 1928, when my grandfather purchased it in anticipation of his marriage to my grandmother in 1931.

My grandparents met at a barn dance and were introduced to one another by my grandmother’s sweet and generous childhood friend, Lillian Fencl, who was like a sister to her until Lillan’s murder in 1958 at the hands of Caril Ann Fugate, the girlfriend of Charles Starkweather during their killing spree.

My grandfather had two horses, Queenie and Dick, and one plow. The rope and many other tools he used for farming and livestock are still in our 116-year-old barn. A tornado in 2008 damaged part of the barn, but those upper sections were repaired and restored to the original appearance.

Finding beauty in the ordinary is a pathway to spirituality. Preserving our environment, respecting the lives of our ancestors, and living within our means are important values that I cherish. I hope to share some of these images with you in the near future.
